Another LOST Blurb

The episode of LOST tonight was my favorite ever. I cried and cried over Desmond and Penelope. I know some people might think I'm pathetic but I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic. True love triumphs over all obstacles is the best story in my book (I'm also having Princess Bride flashes all of a sudden). I can't wait to see how their personal story turns out and of course I hope it's a happy ending.

Evie's 4th Birthday

Evie had a "Princess Party" this year for her birthday. We had 7 little girls here between ages 2-4 and it was a blast! Everyone got to wear a princess outfit. They decorated tiaras, made candy necklaces and played pin the crown on the princess. Of course Evie received many princess inspired gifts to add to her collection.


The finale was a castle cake made by mom who swears she will never make it again because it was so much work. We'll see! We did include wrapped up quarters inside the cake for the kids to find which was a tradition from my Grandma. It was fun to celebrate our little girls b-day with good friends and family. Thank you all for coming!

Slip and Slide at SVHS

A typical winter morning at the high school in my home town. One of the teachers slipped on the ice on his way into school. Instead of throwing out ice melt he set up a video camera from his classroom window to catch more victims. As each person fell they were invited in to watch. The crowd got bigger and bigger. Sometimes you have to make your own fun in a small town.

Favorite line from LOST

My favorite line from the show LOST this week was when Locke was leading his posse through the jungle. Sawyer asked Locke where they were going next and Locke replied that he didn't know yet. Sawyer then stated, "Why don't we just ask a little taller Walt ghost." It was really funny to me. I guess you had to be there.

Evie's first talk

Last Sunday was Evie's first talk in primary. She is loving being in sunbeams, but I'm wondering if the talk was too much too soon. She told me told me from the get go that she wasn't going to do it. I bribed her with candy the day before to at least practice with me. The practice went well so I thought we'd be o.k. I was wrong. We got up to the pulpit and Evie was holding her first picture. I whispered the first phrase into her ear and she barely mumbled it into the microphone. I told her to try it again a little louder. She then looked into the crowd and you could see the fear register on her face. Her eyes became as large as saucers. At that point she announced into the microphone, as clear as a bell, that she needed to go potty. Off we went. When we got back we tried it again. I urged her twice to say something into the mic and she refused. Her next statement was that she was cold. At this point the Bishop got up from his seat, took off his suit jacket and wrapped it around her as she stood at the pulpit. The entire primary room said in unison "ohhhhhhhhh." The bishop and I were both standing by her trying to get her to continue but she was done. It was an entertaining first talk attempt and for only being four years old I was still proud of her.

Experts warn against heating baby bottles due to harmful chemical

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Health experts issued a warning for parents with babies. A study suggests the toxic chemical bisphenol-a, used to make baby bottles can leach into the liquid inside when heated. And that could be a serious medical problems for the children. Almost every bottle on the market: Advent, Evenflo, Playtex,Gerber. They all use this chemical also known as BPA to make their bottles. The Center for Health, Environment and Justice sponsored this study, and is now calling for an immediate moratorium on the chemical's use. Drinking from a bottle is many times necessary for baby's development and growth and for non-breastfeeding mothers, but could your child be ingesting a lot more than just milk or formula?

“I do know that the concentrations that they are finding in bottles are many many fold times higher than what is considered safe,” says Christina Mcnaughton of the Utah Department of Health. Many experts say yes. Scientists suggest there is mounting evidence that even low doses of bisphenol-a can result in serious health risks later on, such as:

-Prostate and breast cancer
-Early on set of puberty
-Obesity
-Hyperactivity
-Low sperm count
-Miscarriage and diabetes

“It can actually mimic an estrogen chain in the body and so therefore you can have some fertility issues for women and it's also very detrimental for developmental and neurological problems in developing infants in the womb,” says Mcnaughton, who is a toxicologist with the Utah department of Health. She says while the studies do have merit we have to remember BPA is in virtually everything we use and consume. “The CDC has reported that 95 percent of Americans have some detectable levels of BPA in their systems,” says McNaughton. This statement was also released by the American chemistry council:

"Bisphenol a is not a risk to human health at extremely low levels to which consumers might be exposed." But what kind of affect do higher levels, some say unacceptable levels, have on our developing children?

“I think a lot more research needs to be done in order for us to be definitive on what we're actually trying to determine and the health affects that are related to that,” says McNaughton. Right now there is a congressional bisphenol probe being conducted by the committee on Energy and Commerce in Washington D.C. There are also nine states studying this chemical and, in fact, trying to ban BPA in children's products and devise a warning label system for adults.

When ABC 4 asked our state toxicologist if she would stop warming her baby's bottle, She said "Absolutely, just as a precaution".

Birthday wishes

Reba said, "Evie, what do you want for your birthday this year?"

Evie said, "A new snow white doll and a sleeping beauty book and princess toilet paper...."

Reba said, "Really, princess toilet paper? Where do you find princess toilet paper?"

Evie said, "At the store."

Reba said, "Which store?"

Evie said, "Ohhhh, just kidding. I just dreamed about it."


After such a sincere request for princess toilet paper I decided to Google it. Alas, there was no such luck finding the fancy paper but I did find a princess toilet paper holder.

Stand a little taller

What a beautiful winter day for Pres. Hinckley's funeral. Our family will truly miss him and his wonderful presence. Here is one last tribute to him. I especially like the fact that the video contains pictures of temples side by side with his pictures. What an example of the great work that he did.

LOST

I have a love/hate relationship with this show. I think these feelings stem from the unending suspense and it's hard for me to wait a whole week to see what will happen next let alone several months. The bottom line is I'm hooked (so is my husband). We are saddened to learn that there will probably only be 8 episodes this season but if the show stats true to it's nature they'll be good ones. For those of you who've never seen the show I highly recommend it. Go get the DVD's and watch it from the very beginning. It can get confusing because of the flashbacks if you don't start at the first. I promise that once you start you won't be able to stop! Stay tuned for more polls as I'll be adding a new one each week.

As for the first episode......I can't decide if Jack, Kate and Hurley's getting off the island is real or imaginary. If it is imaginary the writer's are teasing us and thats just mean! I'm not really sure why Charlie couldn't have gone out of the hatch door in time to escape with Desmond. I'm happy that Danielle was finally reunited with her daughter Alex and Ben finally got what he deserved....a good beating. O.k. so I know that the last to things were revealed to us last season, but I just remembered them.

Snow-it's good for you

Shoveling snow is good exercise! My hubby's been suffering from Bronchitis this week so I've been left to do all the snow removal. I'd forgotten how much work it can be (especially when you get to the slush from the snow plow). It's a good thing I have all that experience from growing up in Wyoming!! I like the workout so much that I might just take over the job entirely.
