What the kids are saying:

I recently started an exercise regimen and while I was working out Evie asked...

Evie: Mom, have you made a muscle yet?
Mom: What do you think (as I flexed my arm for her)?
Evie: I'm impressed!

Mom: Evie we are going to the fun center for your birthday.
Evie: "Ohhhh My" (in a hushed and almost reverent tone)!

While mom was working on the computer...

Addy: Mom, Evie needs a magazine.
Mom: What do you mean she needs a magazine?
Addy: She is on the potty and she needs a magazine.
Mom: Oh, ok (as I hand her a catalog)

She comes back a few seconds later...

Addy: She does't like that one, can she have a different one?

Vegas Baby!

Back in Oct. (2008) I took my first girls trip since my kids were born (almost 4 1/2 yrs.). Mark gets to go backpacking every summer with the guys so I figured it was my turn. Anyhooo it was just what this mommy needed. I got to go with my mom, sister, cousins, aunts and my old college roommate Mandy. We stayed in a condo just south of the strip complete with three large pools and a lazy river. Our days were spent shopping, exploring casinos, visiting baby dolphins and baby tigers, lounging around the pool, eating yummy food and all around enjoying our freedom. I'd have to say the highlight of the trip was the Cirque du Soleil show "O". It was a mix between acrobatics, synchronized swimming, high diving and dance. One of the most amazing and entertaining shows Ive ever seen. I highly recommend it! Fun times.....just not long enough!

There are many uses for hair....

Back in the day, nothing was wasted. Our pioneer ancestors were resourceful enough to save their own hair and turn it into household decor. Sometimes these hair wreaths were made to honor the deceased. Sometimes they contained hair from all members of a family and were arranged in a sort of a family tree like the one pictured above. Just another way to track your family history.
On occasion church groups would create a wreath in remembrance of their sisterhood. Hmmmmm maybe that's an idea for an Enrichment activity.
The first time I saw these in person they kind of scared me. It's just a little too "personal" to see parts of someone else's body hanging on the wall as artwork. Sometimes hair was made into bracelets, brooches or earrings. Ewwwwww

The way the economy is going....I may be making homemade Christmas gifts next year. I think I'll start saving my hair now. If your lucky you'll be receiving one of these from me as a Christmas gift.

What the kids are saying:

I've been rearranging the pictures in my living room. They were sitting on the floor and Addy came over to look at them.

Addy: Ohhhhh, it's Jesus. I love him, he's so pretty (she stroked the picture several times as she said this).

When we were talking about planting a garden this spring.
Mom: Evie what are you going to plant?
Evie: Carrots
Addy: Babies (I actually like this idea....easier on me for the next babe)

Camping!

We tried our hand at camping this summer! The weekend of the ward campout was a constant drizzle of rain. We had never taken the girls camping before and were excited about creating family memories. Unfortunately we were unprepared and left at 1 am because we were too cold. The next weekend we tried again and made sure we had the proper gear. However, we didn't plan on all the other people who were also camping over Father's Day weekend. Our camping site ended up being a patch of grass off the side of the road and we didn't get set up until after dark.......but we had fun! We were with two other couples with little kids and enjoyed some good food and good conversation. Who knew the hit of our trip would be the little training potty sitting outside the tent. Everytime we turned around there was a different little girl sitting on it. I look forward to our next adenture.

Mark's 30th Birthday

I'm a little behind. Mark's b-day was Aug. 3rd and I'm just getting around to posting about it.

Mark requested "Better than Sex cake" for his birthday this year. For those who haven't been enlightened by this delicacy it's a chocolate cake smothered in caramel and chocolate sauce. Topped with whip cream and crushed up skoar bars. YUMMY!

We decided the best thing to do on one's 30th birthday is to act like a kid....so off we went to Classic Fun Center. I think our favorite area were the bouncy toys. The kids had a blast!

Some of the bigger kids got to play laser tag while we were there. I've never done it and it was surprisingly fun (except for the equipment we wore which smelled like sweaty teenage boys)!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARKY!!!!
